China Feed Production 191 million MT in 2013

According to data from China Feed Industry Association, total production of feed industry registered 191 million MT in 2013 in China, down 1.8% from 2012, of which 161.7 million MT was complete feed, 23 million MT concentrated feed and 6.3 million MT additive premix feed, down 1.2%, 6.8% but up 1.7% respectively on year-on-year basis.

1. For different varieties: estimates in 2013, hog feed production registered 80 million MT, layer feed, 30.5 million MT, broiler feed, 50.5 million MT, aquaculture feed, 19 million MT, ruminant feed, 7.8 million MT and other feeds, 3.2 million MT, up 3.6%, down 5.5%, down 8.4%, up 0.4%, up 0.6% and up 1.1% respectively on year-on-year basis.

2. Feed price increased in general. According to the data, average price of feed increased 5.3% YOY in Jan.-Dec. 2013, of which, hog complete feed increased 6.2%, layer compound feed, 5.0% and broiler compound feed, 2.4%; hog concentrated feed increased 4.9%, layer concentrated feed, 13.4% and broiler concentrated feed, 3.7%; hog premix feed increased 8.4%, layer premix feed, 0.2% and broiler premix feed, 1.0%.

3. Developing Trend: based on production in the first three quarters, among the 7 provinces whose production exceeded 10 million MT, Guangdong, Shandong, Hebei and Henan saw decline of 3.2%, 15.1%, 6.1% and 4.1% respectively and Liaoning, Hunan and Sichuan saw increase of 6.4%, 5.6% and 7.4% respectively.

For different regions, growth rate was 4.3% in SW, 3% in central China, SC and NE, 1.2% in NW, -5.7% in NC and -2.1% in ES. Guangxi, Sichuan and Hunan made more contribution to the high growth rate in SW with increase of 15.7%, 7.6% and 5.6% respectively; Shandong and Hebei dragged down growth rate in NC with decline of 15.09% and 6.05% respectively.
