The supply of iced fresh chicken increased 14% in domestic in 2016, and the consumption will continue to rise later

In 2016, China’ supply of iced fresh chicken roughly was 660,000 tons, accounting for about 17% of the total consumption of yellow broilers and increasing by 14% from 2015. Sales of iced fresh chicken is dominated by traditional wholesale market and supermarket, and is supplemented by online sales.

Consumption patterns include household consumption, catering consumption and organizations, and they respectively focus on high quality chicken, big fast-grown chicken and medium-speed-grown chicken and high quality chicken. In 2016, the sales volume of iced fresh chicken in domestic was about 600,000 tons, accounting for about 16% of the total consumption of yellow broilers and roughly increasing by 15% from 2015.

As policies for promoting iced fresh chicken were introduced in various regions, the public are changing their consumption habit and gradually accept iced fresh chicken. Consumers can avoid direct contact with live poultry by consuming iced fresh chicken, and then can effectively reduce the risk of being infected with H7N9 and solve food safety problems caused by live poultry trading.
