High Grain Price is Good for Production in New Crop Year

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-03-18 11:20:23China Agriculture Report Print Harvested grain acreage, grain production and yield in the world were estimated to be 757 million hectares, 2.46 billion MT and 3,252kg/hectare in 2012, down 0.62%, 1.78% and 1.79% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Wheat acreage, production and yield were 224 million hectares, 649 million MT and 2,896kg/hectare in 2012, down 1.62%, 5.3% and 3.74% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Corn acreage, production and yield were 177 million hectares, 898 million MT and 5,081kg/hectare in 2012, up 4.11%, down 0.88% and down 4.79% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
Paddy acreage shrank 0.93% in 2012 on the year-on-year basis. Paddy production was 725 million MT, equal to 493 million MT rice, down 0.33% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Wheat, corn and paddy prices were about $351/MT, $346/MT and $641/MT respectively on average in the international market between September of 2012 and February of 2013, up 11.25%, 7.32% and 5.97% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
In 2013, world grain acreage, production and yield are predicted to be 778 million hectares, 2.6 billion MT and 3,348kg/hectare respectively, up 2.85%, 5.84% and 2.94% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
World wheat acreage and production are predicted to be 226 million hectares and 701 million MT in 2013, up 1.07% and 8.1% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
World corn acreage and production are predicted to be 182 million hectares and 1.007 billion MT in 2013, up 3.13% and 12.13% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
World paddy acreage and production are predicted to be 157 million hectares and 735 million MT respectively in 2013, down 0.55% but up 1.42% respectively on the year-on-year basis. World paddy production is estimated to be equal to 499.7 million MT rice. World paddy production increase will mainly come from extension of high-yield paddy varieties.
