China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-04-08 11:02:53China Agriculture Report Print Cotton procurement totaled 6.506 million MT in 2012/2013 by the end of March, including 2.549 million MT in Xinjiang and 2.229 million MT in other provinces. Specifically, cotton procurement registered 517,700 MT in Hubei, 496,100 MT in Shandong, 403,400 MT in Hebei, etc.
 
By the end of March, 7.162 million MT cotton underwent notarized quality verification, including 2.904 million MT from Xinjiang, 1.562 million MT from Xinjiang State Farm, 726,400 MT from Shandong, 580,600 MT from Hubei, 579,400 MT from Hebei, etc.
 
BOABC estimates that cotton production was about 7.913 million MT in China in 2012.
 
Seed cotton procurement price averaged RMB8,332/MT between August of 2012 and March of 2013, up 1.34% on the year-on-year basis. Specifically, cotton procurement price dropped 0.77% in Xinjiang, but moved up 3% in Anhui, Shaanxi and Shanxi. Cotton production generated a profit ratio of 20% in 2012, below that of other crops.
 
BOABC predicts a 4.59% drop of planted cotton acreage in 2013 compared last year. Cotton production and yield are predicted to be 7.576 million MT and 1.52 MT/hectare this year. Cotton acreage may be reduced in Hebei, Henan, Jiangsu and Anhui to make room for grains.
