Poultry Market Suffering From Bird Flu

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-04-11 11:00:52China Agriculture Report Print In view of the rampant H7N9 bird flu, some poultry markets have suspended operation in East China and Central China. Consumers have little intention of buying live broilers. In Shandong, broiler price slumped RMB1.5/kg last week, incurring heavy losses for broiler farms, though no bird flu was found in the province.

In South China, broiler price went downhill amid weak consumption. As broiler farms have generally stopped buying young birds, broiler-hatching farms are suffering heavy losses. If bird flu gets worse, broiler farms may dump their broilers.

BOABC predicts that broiler price may stay low in the short run since the bird flu is unlikely to be controlled in the near future. The poultry industry is expected to have a hard time this year.
