Feed Production & Corn Consumption in Aug.

China’s feed production was 17.046 million MT in Aug., a drop of 7.6% from the month before and a slip of 12.46% on the year-on-year basis. Feed production totaled 131.8 million MT in Jan. ~ Aug., a drop of 4.22% on the year-on-year basis.
 
7.302 million MT corn was consumed by medium and large compound feed mills and 11.678 million MT mills of various scale in Aug. Compound feed mills ran at 49.19% of their capacity in Aug.
 
Other feed ingredient supply was estimated to be 13.861 million MT in Aug., including 8.691 million MT oilseed meal, 2.2 million MT bran and wheat middling, 1.341 million MT rice husk and broken rice, 1.55 million MT corn bran and protein powder and 80,000 MT beer dregs. Besides, 2.48 million MT wheat and paddy were used as feed.
 
Corn consumption for various uses was 17.567 million MT in Aug. Corn inventory was 66.145 million MT at the end of Aug., suggesting a stock/consumption ratio of 3.77 above the 3.66 recorded in the same period of last year.
 
Corn inventory in Aug. consisted of 31.993 million MT state reserve, 16.839 million MT corn deep-processing factories’ stock, 7.3 million MT feed mills’ stock, 4.5 million MT traders’ stock and 15.509 million MT on-farm stock.
 
Corn price was RMB2,415/MT in Aug., up 1% over the month before but down 2.45% on the year-on-year basis.
 
Corn acreage is estimated to be 36.38 million hectares this year, 3.29% more than last year. Corn production is predicted to be 216 million MT. Considering the low corn price in the international market, corn imports are predicted to stay high this year.
