Food Industry’s Boom Index in Sept. 2013

China Agriculture Report By CnAgri2013-11-19 11:14:22China Agriculture Report Print BOABC’s statistics show that China’s grain and vegoil retail value was RMB138.3 billion and the catering industry’s retail value RMB225.9 billion in Sept., up 13.8% and 9.1% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Adjusting for price, their increase rates were 9.42% and 2.83% respectively.
 
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, medium and large stores’ retail value was RMB979.2 billion and medium and large restaurants’ retail value RMB73.4 billion in Sept., up 13.5% but down 1.3% respectively on the year-on-year basis. Specifically, grain and vegoil consumption valued RMB23.3 billion, livestock products RMB14.3 billion and beverage RMB14.3 billion, up 16.3%, 17.7% and 16% respectively on the year-on-year basis.
 
According to the Ministry of Commerce, major enterprises’ food and beverage retail value increased 4.8% and 7.3% respectively in Sept.
 
On the whole, the nation’s food industry achieved a sales value increase of 4.6% in Sept. on the year-on-year basis.
 
The farm-product-processing industry and the food-making industry realized an added value growth of 10.8% and 10% respectively in Sept. on the year-on-year basis. Adjusting for price, their increase rates were 10.36% and 9.56% respectively, higher than the month before.
 
The farm-product-processing industry received RMB99.291 billion investment in Sept., the food-making industry RMB38.697 billion, the beverage industry RMB36.185 billion and the hotel and restaurant industry RMB64.111 billion, up 42.51%, 16.72%, 31% and 11.2% respectively on the year-on-year basis, adjusted for price. Rising food price attracted investment into the food industry.
 
The production of flour, Japonica, Indica, starch and ethanol generated a gross profit of 9.61%, 13.59%, 10.76%, 4.06% and –8.31% respectively in Sept.
 
Flour and rice shipment and wholesaling generated a gross profit of 18.7% and 15.39% respectively in Sept. The shipment and wholesaling of flour and rice in small packages generated a gross profit of 26.79% and 23.08% respectively, slightly more than the month before.
 
Taking into account of food production, consumption, investment in the food industry and food enterprises’ profit, the food industry’s boom index was 9.82 in Sept., a little more than the previous month.
