Analysis of China’s imports of main grain varieties in October, 2017

Customs data show that the exports and imports of raw grains increased sharply in October.
In export aspect, the total export volume of main grains including wheat, rice, corn, barley and sorghum was 93,600 tons in October, up 73.98% year on year. Rice was the major variety exported.
In October, the total export volume of rice was 90,700 tons, up 73.39% year on year, down 46.46% month on month. The export price of rice was USD577/MT, down 32.84% year on year.
The export volume and average export price of corn were 2180 tons and USD300/MT, respectively realizing growths of 30 times and 0.8% year on year. The export volume and export price of edible sorghum were 686 tons and USD712/MT, increasing 41.07% and 26.73% year on year; the export volumes of barley and wheat were 1.51 tons and 0.10 tons.
In October, the total import volume of cereal and its powder was 1.79 million tons, up 31.6% year on year. The import volume of other raw grains excluding rice, wheat, corn, barley, sorghum and flour was 24,000 tons, up 27.80% year on year. The monthly import volume and import price of oat was 16,800 tons and USD275/MT, increasing 9.87% and -17.04% year on year.
The total import volume of dry cassava and cassava starch was 696,000 tons including 537,000 tons dry cassava and 160,000 tons cassava starch in October, up 19.09% tear on year. It can be converted into 724,000 tons dry cassava, up 17.7% from the year earlier.
As for imports of main grains, the total import volume of wheat, rice, corn, barley and sorghum was 1.748 million tons, up 30.5% year on year; the import volumes of wheat, rice, corn, barley and sorghum respectively were 392,000 tons, 296,000 tons, 73,000 tons, 683,000 tons and 303,000 tons, separately increasing 49.3%, 38.04%, 4.08 times, 113.8% and -42.61% year on year. In addition, the monthly import volume of DDGS was 15,000 tons, down 89.8% year on year.
The total import volume of wheat, corn, rice, barley, sorghum, dry cassava, cassava starch and DDGS was 2.459 million tons, up 18.99% year on year, down 26.33% month on month. It’s predicted that the annual import volume will be 35.7104 million tons, reaching a second highest level.
Grain products: the total export volume of flour, corn starch and modified starch was 37,900 tons in October, up 34.60% year on year; the export volume of these products (converted into raw grain) was about 58,000 tons. The export volumes of flour, corn starch and modified starch respectively were 17,779 tons, 15,480 tons and 4,628 tons, separately increasing 71.25%, 22.02% and -8.90% year on year.
Total import volume of cereal products was 50,800 tons, up 45.94% year on year. The import volume of these products (converted into raw grain) was 78,200 tons. The import volumes of modified starch, flour and corn starch respectively were 32,000 tons, 1.8 tons and 159 tons, separately increasing 1.64%, 5.6 times and -52.7% year on year.
In October, the total export volume of cereals and cereal products (converted into raw grain) was 152,000 tons, increasing 58% year on year; the import volume of these products (converted into raw grain) was 1.826 million tons, up 31.16% year on year.
