Vice Minister Niu Dun meets with Cypriot Minister Sofoclis Aletraris

During his visit to Cyprus, Vice Minister Niu Dun held a working meeting with Mr. Sofoclis Aletraris, Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment of Cyprus in Nicosia on Jan.16th, 2013. The two sides shared information on agricultural development of each other, and reached a consensus on strengthening agricultural cooperation.

 

Minister Sofoclis Aletraris briefed the latest progress of agriculture and fishery industries in Cyprus . He expressed the willingness to increase citrus exportation to China, and enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of water-saving irrigation, aquaculture technology, animal health, and so forth. Niu responded that China has an open and sophisticated agro-market, and he believed that the access of Cyprus’ citrus and other agro specialities will provide Chinese consumers more options to choose. Niu also noted that in spite of different scales of agriculture and fisheries of the two countries, there are strong complementarities and huge potentials for collaboration.Therefore, he proposed to establish a working group to define priorities of bilateral cooperation and develop specific working plans in a timely manner.

 

At the end of the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on regional agricultural cooperation between China and southern European countries.

 

 Ambassador of China to Cyprus Liu Xinsheng also attended the meeting.
