In 2018, Heilongjiang Province adjusted and optimized the regional layout and variety structure according to the general idea of “reducing corn, controlling rice, increasing bean and expanding side crops and fruits &vegetables”. Based on the reduction of 2.267 million hectares of grain corn in the past two years, it strives to achieve new breakthroughs in rice and corn reduction this year and expand the sown area of specialty crops such as grains, beans, vegetables, and edible fungi to 1.333 million hectares. Heilongjiang will continue to cut down grain corn planting in non-dominant areas in the 4th and 5th accumulated temperature zones, and focus on the development of processing-only and fresh-eating corn in the dominant areas, and aims at to make the area of paddy down about 100,000 hectares by reducing the sown area of poor-taste paddy that need be irrigated and purchased for storage.
