What are the main factors restricting the rapid development of China's poultry probiotics industry?

The probiotics is a viable preparation made through a special process, which can be used to regulate the flora of the intestine by benefiting microorganisms and has the effects of reducing morbidity and mortality, raising feed conversion, improving product quality and improving the environment. In addition, the problem of antibiotic residues is becoming more and more serious, and probiotics are gradually recognized and used by poultry producers.
As the proportion of probiotics used in poultry farms in China is not high, farmers haven’t a clear understanding of probiotics products, the methods of using the products are not standardized, and the efficacy of the products needs to be improved. At present, poultry probiotics industry is in the early stage of development. So what are the main factors restricting the rapid development of the probiotics industry?
(1)When will feeding without antibiotics be realized? With the government's emphasis on food safety, the application of antibiotics is increasingly restricted in livestock production. However, at present, China's feeding industry can not completely get rid of the dependence on antibiotics, and the implementation of feeding without antibiotics also requires the government to clarify the laws and regulations, step up detection efforts and disciplinary measures. Only the abuse of antibiotics is really prohibited, probiotics can have alternative space and opportunities.
(2)Scale and industrialization level of poultry farming: At present, the scale and industrialization level of poultry farming in China are far from those in Europe and the United States. The environment of poultry farms is complex and the epidemic situation is serious, probiotics cannot solve many disease problems and only is used as an aid. Only the scale and industrialization level are drastically increased, the farming environment is significantly improved, the management of epidemic prevention is strengthened, and the poultry diseases is controlled, can probiotics have conditions of working.
(3)National standards of probiotics: the development of probiotics started relatively late in China. At present, there are no clear and strict industry standards and national standards in China, probiotics companies can obtain production and marketing qualifications only need to record their enterprises standards in quality supervision department. Low entry barriers lead to serious product homogeneity, product efficacy is difficult to meet customers’ expectations, at the same time, fierce market competition and vicious price war seriously affect the development of the industry and enterprises.
(4)Product quality problems: manufacturers need to improve the safety and activity of strains, clarify the mechanism of product and combined applications with other substances. The application of probiotics will increase only if the quality and efficacy of products are improved in farms.
(5)Farmers' cognition of probiotics: Farmers must have a fair and objective understanding of the role of probiotics and shouldn’t lay hopes of solving all animal diseases on probiotics. The use of probiotics in practical production is affected and constrained by many factors. On the one hand, some probiotics are flawed and shoddy with poor quality; on the other hand, wrong use of probiotics also impacts the effects. Therefore, farmers should understand its characteristics, master scientific and rational methods of usage to maximize the effectiveness and superiority of probiotics.
(6)In conclusion, at present, the development of the poultry probiotics industry is not yet mature, and above constraints should be resolved before it  enter a stage of rapid development.
